Smith Street Project
Veterans Constructing Communities Foundation along with CI Engineering Solutions and various other sponsors have taken on the renovation of SGT Robertson’s home in Mount Clemens, MI. When completed this home will have two independent units, one of which will be handicapped accessible. SGT Robertson has signed a contract with VCCF to oversee the leasing of these units to veterans, providing a safe environment for them to age in place or to provide them with a home while they try and make the American Dream of home ownership come true.
Project Overview:
SGT Robertson’s property on Smith Street in Mount Clemens, MI has been vacant since January of 2010. The house is in need of some major renovations and updating. The scope of this project is to make the home energy efficient with insulation, new windows, new furnace, tankless water heaters, a new roof and to reconfigure the layout of the house to better accommodate the needs of veterans and small families. While we already have a number of sponsors who have stepped up to the plate to help us, this project is ambitious and we need the help of the community to make this happen.
When this project is complete, the main floor will be handicapped accessible with two bedrooms, a spacious living room, new bathroom and eat-in kitchen. The upper unit will be reconfigured to have a smaller living room, the attic will be converted into a large bedroom with another bedroom at the front of the house, new bathroom and new kitchen, along with a nice sized deck off the back of the house where the main entrance to that unit will be. Each unit will be self-sufficient and with laundry facilities.
